Allah Most High tells us in the Qur’an: “And recite the Qur'an as it ought to be recited” (73:4).
Throughout the centuries, the science of tajwid has been the means by which one could fulfil this Qur’anic injunction and recite the Book of Allah in the most proper and beautiful manner. Each of us must learn the basic rules of pronunciation so that our recitation of at least the Fatiha (Opening chapter) is correct; to neglect this would be to neglect the best way of reciting the Qur'an.
In Introductory Tajwid, students will be able to perfect their recitation of the Fatiha as well as beautify their recitation by working through the last ten surahs of the Qur’an. The classes will be conducted in small groups with a maximum of 10 sisters, allowing students the opportunity to improve their tajwid through individual recitation and by listening to their fellow students. The emphasis of the course will lie on the practical application of tajwid rules rather than the theory itself; rules will be taught as they appear. A key feature of this course is one-on-one time with the instructor, who will recommend which rules each student needs to review and practise further, based on their individual strengths and weaknesses.
In summary students will:
• Fulfill the obligation of learning the precise recitation of the Fatiha
• Receive personalised feedback from the instructor with recommendations based on individual strengths and weaknesses
• Improve fluency and proficiency in reading the Qur’an (by working through the last 10 surahs)
• Strengthen their relationship with the book of Allah Most High.
Students are required to bring their own copy of the Qur'an and a notebook to all lessons.
